drive in playlist

Friday night a friend invited us to the movies.
And not just any movies, but she had a groupon for the drive in.
So I piled yoga mats and sleeping bags into the back of my husband’s truck. She packed a dinner and we headed south to watch Gnomio and Juliet under the stars.

Me and my husband used to be big movie buffs. We saw them on opening night and would drive to weird theatres in Dallas to watch documentaries or indie films that most of our friends had never heard of. But in the last five+ years, that has waned. I still go to movies, but mostly cartoons. And I miss them. Like I miss having cable and having someone clean my house.

And I miss movie popcorn with butter or smuggling in my own candy. And I don’t have the best movie ettiquiete. I do remember to turn off my phone, but I kind of like to add my own commentary sometimes. And I have a big screaming laugh and sometimes I’m the only one laughing. But outside, in the back of the pick up, I could laugh as loud as I want…as long as we could still hear the radio. I made multiple trips to the snack bar (and potty, thank you Tess) and managed to stay awake for the ending. Barely.

And it has been awhile since I’ve done a playlist. I haven’t forgotten. I’ve just been a little preoccupied. So I’m back and this week they are all from movie soundtracks…
And I know I’m leaving a TON out, feel free to tell me more in the comments…but grooveshark is giving me fits and I should really be grading papers..

and in case you wanted to know what movies they are from...in order..
1. Threesome 2. Reality Bites 3. Fight Club 4. 9to5 5.My Best Friend's Wedding 6. Something about Mary 7. Garden State 8. Pulp Fiction 9. Romeo and Juliet 10. The Graduate 11. Top Gun 12. Closer 13. Juno 14. Eat, Pray, Love 15. Once

I love, love, love your list! I think I have almost every single one of those songs on my ipod and guessed the movie before I saw your list.

I love it!

Canceled

I inhale books. So much so that I’m occasionally embarrassed by my intake. I don’t want anyone to think that I don’t work or pay attention to my family.  I’m just a fast reader and I don’t watch a lot of TV or play any games on my phone. Well – except for Wordle of course. My library card get a lot of miles. However, I still probably spend an embarrassing amount on books.  Even though I often put books in those cute little free libraries – I still have more books than shelves.  Today I did something tragic.  I did not renew my book of the month membership.  And let's be honest, it is more like three books a month.  I am not unhappy with the customer service, quality  or selection.  Book of the Month, I promise …it’s not you - it’s me.  I want to invest in my writing and I realize this going to cost me.  I don’t want to take that money from my family or my kid’s college funds.  Instead I had to evaluate what I was willing to give up.  What financial choices impact me but not as many

slow

Recently I went to the local running store and let them charge a ridiculous amount for a new pair of running shoes. I used to run. Just like I used to do lots of things, but lately I have been slow to get off the couch. Let’s be honest. This season has been a long one, and I’ve been slow to do a lot of things that are good for me. My old shoes are wearing thin and nothing motivates like a new pair of kicks.  I quickly found my brand and style of choice and asked the worker to bring them in my size. The owner spoke up from the back, “So you are picking your shoes out based on how they look?” I pulled my own foot into her view. I showed her a similar pair in teal, well worn, with the big toe scuffed all the way through. The model was a few years old and I needed a fresh start.  “Nope. These are my brand, but I’m open to your suggestions.” Runners are very particular about their shoes.  I tell her I need something to absorb a lot of the impact.  I tell her that I overpronate just a little

Friday Playlist - Got you Covered

I love a good cover. And here are some of my favorites. 1. Obidiah Parker – Hey Ya (outkast) This song makes me so happy everytime I here it. I’m not sure how they managed to make outkast folky but they so pulled it off. Love it. 2.Ben Taylor – I try (macy gray). This is Ben Taylor as in James Taylor and it is so amazing. 3.John Mayer -Free Fallin (tom petty). I used to sing this song at Young Life my freshman year of high school and love it. By Tom Petty. By John Mayer. By anyone with a guitar. 4.Kendall Payne – One (U2). This is one of my favorite songs of all times and I just adore this girl…..so of course it is a winner J. 5.Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan -Get the Party Started (pink). Funny funny stuff that somehow works. Damien Rice could sing the back of a cereal box and I’d buy it. 6. Ryan Adams– Wonderwall ( oasis). I like his version better than the real one. 7.Across the Universe – Fiona Apple ( beatles). So pretty. Rufus Wainwright also does a killer version. 8. Blackbird –
